FEATURES  
The Trane Co. sells comfort systems. Comfort is achieved  
through matching the correct equipment and controls. This  
thermostat is designed to provide the maximum comfort  
for your needs. Some of the basic offerings are:  
Simple and easy to use. The and keys make it  
easy for you to change your temperature setting.  
Large digital display. You can easily read the current  
room temperature at a glance.  
No need for batteries. Batteries are not required  
because your temperature settings are held perma-  
nently in memory.

SETTINGS  
Setting SYSTEM and FAN Switches  
System and fan settings are controlled by using  
SYSTEM and FAN switches located on the bottom of  
the thermostat case.  
Note:  
When the TAYSTAT 380 is used with two-stage  
heating equipment, there is an air flow change  
when the stage change occurs.

First set the SYSTEM switch:  
Cool: Normal setting for months when your home  
needs cooling (air conditioning). Digital display  
shows a snowflake  
Both heating and cooling are off.  
when cooling is on.  
Off:  
Heat:  
Normal setting for months when your home  
needs heating. Digital display shows a flame  
when heating is on.

Then set the FAN switch:  
Auto: Normal setting for most homes. Some systems  
may delay the fan turning on and off with the  
equipment.  
On:  
The fan runs continuously. Use for improved air  
circulation and air quality.

Displaying Temperature Setting  
NOTE: Your temperature setting can be set anywhere  
from 50° to 99°F (10° to 37°C).  
The temperature setting and the room temperature display  
separately. The indicator points to Set when the  
temperature setting displays, and to Room when the room  
temperature displays. The thermostat displays room  
temperature unless or is pressed.  
1. To display the temperature setting on the digital  
display, press either the or key once.

Changing Temperature Setting  
1. To lower the temperature setting, press the key.  
When in the heating mode, lowering the temperature  
at night or during the day can lower your energy  
costs.

2. To raise the temperature setting, press the key.  
When in the cooling mode, raising the temperature  
before you leave for work or school also lowers your  
energy costs.

CAUTION  
Equipment Damage Hazard.  
Can cause permanent damage to the compres-  
sor or other equipment.  
To avoid possible equipment damage, do not  
operate cooling when outside temperature is below  
50°F (10°C). See equipment manufacturer  
instructions. To avoid possible compressor  
damage, allow the compressor to remain off for  
five minutes before restarting.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE  
Symptom

Check if the circuit breaker is  
tripped—reset the circuit  
breaker.  
Check if the fuse is blown—

LIMITED WARRANTY  
Low Voltage Room Thermostats  
This warranty is extended by American Standard Inc., to  
the original purchaser and to any succeeding owner of the  
real property to which the Thermostat is originally affixed,  
and applies to products purchased and retained for use  
within the U.S.A. and Canada.  
If any part of your Thermostat fails because of a manu-  
facturing defect within one year from the date of the  
original purchase, Warrantor will furnish, without charge, a  
new thermostat. Any local transportation, related  
service labor and diagnosis calls are not included.

This warranty does not cover failure of your Thermostat if  
it is damaged while in your possession or if the failure is  
caused by unreasonable use. In no event shall Warrantor  
be liable for incidental or consequential damages. In no  
event shall any implied warranty of merchandise or  
fitness for use exceed the terms of the limited  
warranty stated above.  
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an  
implied warranty lasts or do not allow the exclusion or  
limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the  
above limitation may not apply to you. This warranty gives  
you specific legal rights, and you may also have other  
rights which vary from state to state.
